This non-aerobatic 2.5 minute "Missing Man Formation Flyby" is traditionally
(but not necessarily) performed as a military salute to a fallen Airman, Soldier, Sailor, or Marine. It is the ultimate symbol of respect for a loved one.
The "Missing Man Formation Flyby" starts with a "Flat Pass" from right to left over the burial site or funeral home at 1000' above ground, then repositions for the "Missing Man Flyby" pass where the #3 jet pulls up and out of the formation as a salute. The maneuvers are performed with crisp white smoke trailing from behind the jets. The sample photos below depicts the two "Missing Man" maneuvers.
